St. John — Formally organized in 1882 by the German Lutherans living in Clare, the congregation has a rich heritage. It has faithfully and continually served God’s people in the Clare area for almost 150 years!
Faith — This congregation is a “daughter” church of St. John. It was established in 1972 to minister to the people further north in the Harrison area.
Both churches are traditional in structure, with vaulted ceilings, crosses over the altars, stained glass windows, pews for sitting, and balconies with organs. St. John’s has added a baby grand piano in the front of the Sanctuary. Both churches now also have large screen TVs near the pulpits to share slides during the sermons and services. In short, both are a lovely mix between traditional and contemporary.
The Faith and St. John “Families” are made up of folks of all ages and backgrounds. Some have been a part of the congregations most or all of their lives; others are newer to the family. Though there’s not a perfect person in the bunch, they truly do love the Lord and each other.
Our worship life always revolves around God’s life-changing Word. Though generally more “traditional” in worship style, we are gradually including greater variety in the elements of worship and are constantly exploring the most beneficial ways to praise the Lord.
St. John’s is on the “main street” in Clare (1004 N. McEwan Street). Faith is located on the north end of Harrison just east of Wilson State Park and Budd Lake (2770 E. Townline Rd.).
Both congregations are part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The synod is theologically “conservative,” and has congregations around the world.
