About a Fundamental Premise

Disclaimer

Many question the essence of truth.  I am convinced the Bible is absolute truth.

Counterpoint

Absolute truth has to exist somewhere, doesn’t it?

Goal

Share this truth that encourages now, and leads to a forever with God.

This Is What I Regard as Truth

The purpose of this site is not to lay out all the wonderful truths of God’s Word in detailed fashion.  However, a basic understanding of “where I am coming from,” or rather where God is coming from, seems important.  Here are a few fundamental doctrines from the Lord’s rich palette of truths, with supporting Bible passages, to show what I believe.

God Is Far Beyond Our Understanding

The God of the Bible is triune (3 “persons” yet 1 God), holy (perfect), spirit, eternal, almighty, all-knowing, present everywhere, fair, faithful, good, unchanging, merciful, loving, compassionate and forgiving.

Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.  (Psalm 145:3)

Each Person Will Spend Eternity
in One of Two Places

It is common for people to talk generically about “going to a better place” after this life, regardless of what a person has done or what they believe.  God is much more precise about what occurs after death (and why).  Either one’s soul moves on to heaven … or it transitions to hell.  Those are two radically different destinations!  Heaven is definitely the better outcome!

“The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side [in heaven].  The rich man also died and was buried.  In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.  (Luke 16:22-23)

People Are Saved by God's Grace Alone

No one – not a single person – is able to live a good-enough life to earn God’s blessing and a spot in his heaven (see Romans 3:23).  The ONLY way anyone can be with the Lord now and forever is by God’s amazing grace.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.  (Ephesians 2:4-5)

People Are Saved Through Faith Alone

Doing good things (no matter how great or how many!) will never secure God’s love and forgiveness.  It’s impossible for sinners to do anything to sway the Lord in the least.  Only faith (which God gives through his grace!) in Jesus’ perfect life and atoning death will alter God’s view of a person.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.  (Ephesians 2:8-9)

People Are Saved Through Jesus Christ Alone

There are no other earthly individuals who are integral factors in anyone’s salvation.  No other mediators are needed.  People may (and should!) share God’s Word with others, but it is God who saves.  Jesus, God Himself, was born into this world to live perfectly and die horribly in the place of people. But He lives again and has secured salvation for all who trust in him.

Salvation is found in no one else [but Jesus], for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”  (Acts 4:12)

People Are Saved Through Scripture Alone

No additional resources besides the Bible are needed.  God hasn’t added any Scriptural supplements to the original, and no human has had additional revelations that merit consideration.  Everything anyone needs to know about God and his grace is already recorded in God’s Word.  It is truth!

The Holy Scriptures are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness …  (2 Timothy 3:15-16)

All Glory Goes to God!

Without God’s love and mercy, our situation would be bleak.  But God has shown love and mercy to the world.  Those who recognize his loving-kindness are richly blessed; they rejoice and praise Him.  All glory to God!

“Amen!  Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever.  Amen!”  (Revelation 7:12)
